How do you maintain an inner sense of calm during overwhelming and difficult situations?

Sometimes, it can feel like life does nothing but throw curveballs at you. When that happens, it might feel like your life is spinning out of control. The thing you need most is to be able to find a place of calmness, strength, and positivity. But those are often the most difficult things to find when you’re stuck in the thick of life’s trickiest moments.

I’m excited to welcome Dr. Julie Smith to our show today. Dr. Smith is a clinical psychologist who has devoted her career to learning everything possible about adult mental health and the intricacies of the human mind. Her first book, Why Has Nobody Told Me This Before, sold over one million copies, and today, she’s here to discuss her newly released book Open When…: A Companion for Life’s Twists & Turns.

When life feels messy, the inner balance you need most can feel impossible to grasp. It gets easier to say yes to someone—even if that means you’re actually saying no to yourself. Listen in as Dr. Smith shares some tools to help you shift your mindset and set healthy boundaries to avoid things like self-criticism, decision-making paralysis, and toxic positivity in stressful situations.
