How will adding one extra degree of effort help you achieve your goals?

Today, I want to talk to you about mindset.

In Limitless, I talk about the three keys to becoming limitless and the first one is the power of your mindset. These are the attitudes and assumptions you have about the things you want to go after.

To get any new result in life, you have to work for it. Practice makes progress. Limitless isn’t about being perfect, it’s about progressing beyond what you currently believe is possible.

Listen in as I talk about how to adjust your mindset by examining the effort you’re willing to put in.

One More Degree

  • People who excel, who demonstrate a consistent level of genius, always put in more effort.
  • It’s not necessarily huge differences either. It’s a little bit more discipline, practice, training, and learning every day.
  • There’s a book called 212: The Extra Degree by Sam Parker.
  • The concept is at 211 degrees Celsius, water is very hot. But at 212 degrees Celsius, it boils.
  • With that boiling water comes steam, a completely different form of water.
  • Steam is an incredible force and can be used to power things, like a locomotive.
  • By adding one degree, you have this incredible power to power this incredible machine.
  • You are a machine. Your business is a machine, your brain is a machine.
  • You can harness the power of one extra degree of effort, discipline, and practice and notice all the different rewards that come.

The Power Of Time

  • Whenever you’re looking to improve anything, you want to look at being able to do things efficiently and effectively.
  • If you’re thinking about going somewhere, you want to make sure you’re heading in the right direction, so you don’t end up going nowhere fast.
  • Make sure you have your target in mind, and that you’re looking at how to get there efficiently and effectively.
  • One example is to look at any race–the Olympics, horse racing, the Indy 500. Often the difference between winning and not winning is a couple of seconds, even as little as one second or a fraction of a second.
  • But the difference in rewards between winning and not winning is huge.
  • Gold medal champions get all the rewards. They’re heroes and champions, and are known as being the best in the world.
  • That one second makes all the difference, and you can get there with one extra degree of effort every day.

An Extra Degree In Your Daily Life

  • I want you to think about all the areas of your life where you could put one extra degree In your relationships, in health and wellness, in your physical training.
  • Do that one extra rep because that’s the hardest one to do.
  • The last one, that tenth rep, or even that eleventh rep is always the one you want to do the least.
  • But that last rep is the one that gives you the most growth. And if you can push for one extra rep, that one extra degree, that makes all the difference.
  • Remember: you have genius inside you, but to get that change you have to challenge yourself.
  • Part of my job in being your brain coach is to challenge you. That’s what I’m doing today, challenging you to go one more level, one more rep.
  • There is another level inside every one of you. In your focus, concentration, and ability to study.
  • Go a little bit extra in everything you do. Read one more paragraph, one more page. Be present with individuals. Finish one more task or do that one last rep.
  • And watch the incredible rewards come back to you.
  • The bad news is, to accomplish anything takes effort.
  • But the good news is, it doesn’t take as much effort as you think.
  • And because most people aren’t willing to put in that extra effort, you can really push ahead.
  • Look at every part of your life and find where you can go from 211 degrees to 212.

Light Your Flame

  • You don’t want to dim your light because it’s shining in someone else’s eyes. Don’t reduce yourself or become invisible because you’re afraid of what other people are going to think.
  • Be a source of light and set yourself on fire.
  • You only have one life, so run towards your dreams like you’re on fire.
  • Burn brightly, but inspire others with your grit and your grace.
  • Help them and encourage them; fan their flames so they can burn brighter.
  • In a dark and dim world, we can all benefit from everyone lighting themselves up.
  • When you train your brain, you transform your brain. And when you transform your brain, you transform your life.
  • Change your brain, and you change the world.
  • Start by putting in that extra effort.
  • Do not make excuses, or allow time to complain. That just wastes time, energy, and focus.
  • When you stop making excuses and stop complaining, you have extra time and energy into developing yourself.
  • There is a version of yourself that you haven’t met yet.
  • Our goal on this journey together is to keep showing up, both for yourself and each other.
  • How do you become limitless in a limited world? We do it together.
  • There’s an African proverb that says, “If you want to go faster, go alone. But if you want to go farther, you go together.”
  • Let’s all add one extra degree to today. An extra degree of focus, discipline, concentration, determination, discipline, practice, learning, and study.
  • Do the important work and you will get the rewards.
  • Heat up today, heat up that extra degree. Let’s get the steam going in all that you do.
